Experience and profile
The Samariterstiftung is one of the major and experienced providers of social services in Wurttemberg. Based on the gospel of Jesus Christ the facilities welcome all people in need regardless of their confession, philosophy, or nationality. The foundation is a member of the Deaconry Wurttemberg.
The Samariterstiftung in its present form resulted from the 1975 merger of the „Fürsorgeheime Leonberg-Oberensingen„ (established in 1871) and the „Samariterstiftung Stuttgart„ dating back to 1885. At the moment, the foundation comprises more than 30 homes, facilities and services for altogether more than 3800 elderly, handicapped, and people suffering from illnesses. 2300 employees (including part-time employees) are working here. The Samariterstiftung attaches great importance to their social welfare profile. This shows in the everyday work and becomes apparent in the offerings of religious life and the pastoral care. It also affects the mission statement of the foundation. Therein the employees have outlined their fundamental believes and the aims of their actions.
Offerings tailored to the needs … of elderly people
The homes of the Samariterstiftung want to provide a home where older people can get all the help they need and at the same time still lead their lives as independently as possible. This includes a good support and care as well as activating and rehabilitating offerings.
Whether as residents of a residential home for the elderly, or as guests in short term care, in assisted living or at the lunch that’s open for everyone: in an institution for the support of the elderly of the Samariterstiftung, senior citizens receive what they need – from one hand, under one umbrella. Each home is a ‘home for all’, meeting point for all generations and part of the community – in the center of life, with lots of opportunities for joint adventures and involvement. Treatment in the geriatric rehabilitation hospital, for example, helps elderly people after suffering an apoplexy or an amputation to regain a life as independent as possible. The Deaconry Welfare Centers offer a broad spectrum of outpatient services (home care, neighborly help, meals on wheels, etc.)
Individual Support ... For people with handicaps and mental illnesses
The Samariterstiftung will care and encourage anyone who is mentally, bodily or emotionally handicapped in order to enable them to stay fully integrated into the community despite their handicaps: Everybody should be able to lead as ‘normal’ a life as possible. The Samariterstiftung also offers comprehensive counseling, treatment and care for people with mental illnesses.
Residential accommodations, sheltered accommodations and flat-sharing communities are homes for people with handicaps or mental illnesses. Ambulant Assisted Living and Assisted Living in Families also enables living in a family-like community. In addition, there are offers for daily structuring and therapeutic offers.
The Workshops for Handicapped People (WfbM) are meant for occupational rehabilitation. They offer opportunities for training and work matching the abilities of the employees. The spectrum ranges from uncomplicated packaging work to challenging metal processing and metal working. There are Special Needs Groups and Care Groups for severely and multiple handicapped people. The Day-Care-Centers for mentally ill people are contact points offering occupation, and counseling, among other things. Day Hospitals for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy care for mentally ill people living at home during the night and on weekends.
Open for the future
Help for people in a quickly changing world requires a high amount of flexibility and open-mindedness for innovations. Therefore, the Samariterstiftung is constantly developing their offerings – with regard to the growing number of elderly people who need care, as well as the rehabilitation and integration of mentally, bodily, and emotionally handicapped people.
It is part of the tradition of the Samariterstiftung to apply new findings from science and research. Many of the groundbreaking conceptions and projects of the Samariterstiftung have been a model to others.
We train people! Care for the elderly, curative education, social pedagogy, social economy, as well as domestic economics, crafts, and administration are fields of work in which the Samariterstiftung offers education, advanced training and professional training. Thereby, the Foundation cooperates with well-known institutions, for example as associate of the ’Diakonischen Instituts für soziale Berufe’ (Diaconic Institute for Social Professions). At the same time, the Samariterstiftung offers positions for the Freiwillige soziale Jahr (gap year taken for voluntary work in the social sector) and the Zivildienst (community service as alternative to military service), as well as many possibilities for internships. Further information regarding vocational training, etc can be obtained at the homes and institutions or by phone: +49 (0) 7022 / 505-233.

Volunteer work makes strong! Volunteers bring something along that full-time employees have precious little of today: time for personal devotion and support. There is support for the volunteers too: through counseling, advanced training, and exchange of experiences. If you want to join us, please contact the respective institution.
Transform money – into time for people! In order to support volunteer work, individuals, politicians and businesses in the year 2004 founded ZEIT FÜR MENSCHEN (Foundation TIME FOR PEOPLE). With the help of the proceeds, we want to finance the recruitment, support, and promotion of volunteers in the institutions of the Samariterstiftung on a sustained basis.
